Orkney folk Festival announces provisional 2010 line-up
Orkney is set to come alive to the sounds of the world’s best folk music once again in May, with the 2010 Orkney Folk Festival’s line-up promising four days’ entertainment from some of the best acts from across Scotland, the UK and further afield, not to mention the finest home-grown talent to top it off!
Visiting Orkney will be Cara Dillon, Tim O’Brien, Lau, The Shee, The Foghorn String Band, Lori Watson, Bella Hardy, The New Rope String Band, Iain Cathcart’s Scottish Dance Band and the Pentlands Ceilidh Band. Showcasing Orkney’s home-grown talent, Lone Star Swing Band, Saltfishforty, The Wrigley Sisters, The Chair, Hadhirgaan, Shoot the Piper, Fiona Driver, Jo Philby, Frank Keenan, Song Shop, Hullion, and Shoramere will also be centre stage over the four-day festival.
Commenting on the programme, Festival Director, Bob Gibbon, said:
“In the six months since the last festival, the committee have been hard at work creating the next one, and I’m really excited to now be able to announce who we’ve got coming to Orkney in May.
“We have three fantastic vocalists in Cara Dillon, Lori Watson and Bella Hardy, and there’s also a strong American contingent this year, with both Tim O’ Brien and the Foghorn String Band being masters of their trade. I’m really pleased to have Lau back in Orkney as well, as we last had them in 2006 when they had just come together as a trio, and they’re now one of the busiest acts in Scotland.
“The Orkney Folk Festival is as much about the locally based acts as well, though, and the list of them already confirmed is only a small indicator of the amount of talent here in the county.”
The 28th Orkney Folk Festival will be held from May 27-30, 2010. The festival will once again be based in Stromness, however events will also take place in Kirkwall, Deerness, Evie, Finstown, Harray, Hoy, Rousay and Sanday. Tickets will go on sale to patrons in April, with general booking opening in May.
